strengthening the bridge between academia and industry. Our Academic Outreach portfolio
connects students, researchers, and educators with the real-world practice of project management,
creating opportunities to learn, collaborate, and thrive.
- University Partnerships: We collaborate with leading institutions such as University of Sydney
(USYD), Western Sydney University (WSU), University of Technology of Sydney (UTS),
Macquarie University (MQ), University of NSW (UNSW), Australian Catholic University (ACU),
Kaplan Business School (KBS), Australian Institute of High Education (AIH) to deliver guest
lectures, interactive workshops, and national webinars. These sessions explore practical
applications of project management, from AI in project delivery to career pathways for students
stepping into the workforce. - Career Development for Students: Through roadshows, panel discussions, and skills-focused
workshops, we help students understand how project management principles apply across
industries and research, preparing them for a seamless transition from university to professional
life. - Student Clubs & Societies: PMI Sydney Chapter supports and partners with student-led project management clubs across universities. These clubs are recognised through formal agreements ensuring strong governance, university support, and integration with the Chapter’s outreach strategy. Student Clubs create a vibrant on-campus community where students can explore project management, build leadership skills, and connect with industry.
Depending on the university, clubs may operate as:
- Supported University Clubs: existing student societies with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PMI Sydney Chapter.
- PMI Chapter Student Clubs: new clubs created and governed in partnership with PMI
Sydney Chapter, often drawing students from multiple universities. - Student Branches: well-established clubs that evolve into official PMI branches.
Each club is student-led with university sponsorship and supported by our Academic Outreach
team, ensuring sustainability and continuity year to year.
Why It Matters
Project management is more than a profession; it’s a life skill. By engaging with students and
academics, we encourage future leaders to view research, learning, and careers through a project
lens. Our initiatives highlight how structured methods, stakeholder engagement, and adaptability
are key to success in today’s dynamic environment.
