Q: What are the benefits of becoming a PMI member?

A: As a PMI member you are kept up to date on local and global Project Management information in various industries. With over 35 online communities there will never be a question unanswered. You can download all PMI foundational standards, practice standards and frameworks for free including the Guide to Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)

Q: Why pay extra and become a Sydney Chapter member?

A: The Sydney Chapter is an exciting community to be part of. The chapter runs a number of breakfasts and evening events featuring local and international speakers. If you're looking for new opportunities, wanting to connect with like minded people and expand your professional network, the Sydney Chapter offers this and much more. PMP Exam preparation sessions are regularly run helping Project Managers get certified, and we have short courses focusing on certain areas of Project Management e.g scheduling or earned value etc.

Q: Can my PMI Certification be verified?

A: A person's PMI certification status can usually be verified through the online Certification Registry at

Since certification holders may choose not to be listed in the online Certification Registry, they may hold a PMI certification even if their names do not appear within the listing. Therefore, if you are unable to locate an individual’s name and credential(s) in the registry, you may send a signed release to +1 484 631 1332 and PMI will provide you with a confirmation of their status.

Q: I have just moved from Brisbane to Sydney. Can I transfer my membership?

A: This is normally done on a case-by-case basis. Members who wish to transfer their chapter membership can contact the Asia Pacific Customer Care team at Our team will work with the PMI Membership team to further assist members. Please note that additional chapter membership
fees may apply.

Q: Can I become a member of two different states/chapters at the same time?

A: You certainly can, however each chapter you decide to join will incur a joining fee (fees listed on PMI global website)

Q: I have just joined the Sydney Chapter. Can you advise my login details for the Sydney Chapter website?

A: To log into the Chapter site you will need your preferred email address (as provided to PMI) for your Username and your PMI ID as your Password . You can change your password at any time after logging in, by using the 'My Account' link on the login panel.  It takes a day or two for your details to filter through to the Sydney website.

Q: Do I have to join as a PMI Global member in order to be come a Sydney Chapter Member?

A: The Sydney Chapter is a component of the PMI Global organisation. To become a member of the Sydney Chapter, you must first be a PMI member. To join, simply follow

Q: I’m interested in preparing to sit for my PMP exam. Are there any preparation courses to help pass my exam?

A: The Chapter runs Certification preparation classes monthly, on the 2nd last and last Tuesday of the month. For more information, refer to the CAPM/PMP Preparation Classes page on the PMI Sydney Chapter website.

Q: I have a Masters Degree in Project Management from Sydney University. Am I automatically PMP certified as a holder of a Masters Degree in PM or do I need to go through the process to be certified?

A: Unfortunately there is no automatic route to becoming PMP certified. It is necessary to sit the exam and to meet the associated pre-conditions.

Q: I have renewed my PMI membership &Sydney chapter membership, however I have not received my Tax Receipt. How can I obtain a copy?

A: You can log into the site - - and reprint a copy.
