Insights on Digital Transformation - Five things they don't tell you
Digital Transformation has quickly become the norm when it comes to delivering transactions for users. Many organisations start with implementing 'new ways of working', such as Agile or even 'new ways of leading'. Then follows a long list of other issues which arise in addition to the Agile teams compiling an impressive prototype that excites internal stakeholders.
The next thing a Delivery Lead hears is 'When can we have that prototype in production for our customers?' (In some cases the expectation is in the next few weeks!!!); Agile / Scrum can't solve everything.
A recent CIO.com article defined Digital Transformation as 'Digital Transformation is application of digital capabilities to processes, products, and assets to improve efficiency, enhance customer value, manage risk, and uncover new monetization opportunities'.
The definition is all well and good, however, where is the Transformation part?
When delivering Digital Transformation, there are many other areas of the organisation, the suppliers, the users, the internal employees, and so on... all who are affected by the whole transformation when moving across to a Digital experience.
And sometimes it gets worse... with a Business Transformation; there are often critical points in the program when change happens / major milestones. With a Digital Transformation, these change points are regular and often, sometimes replacing work that has already completed, making rework for some.
Then there are the Customers who will always surprise you. At times, sometimes highlighting a change in direction for the transformation, all while the Sponsors / Senior Leaders are applying pressure as they expect when the next release to customers will happen.
Drawing on his 15 years within Digital Transformations (what was previously known as e-Commerce), Ralf presents his thoughts on the five areas of Digital Transformation that people don't tend to talk about (and Agile isn't one of them ;-)
His pragmatic approach explains that not all organisations are Google, Spotify or Uber. They are organisations/companies who have been around for 50 plus years, with legacy technology, working in heavily regulated sectors, unlike the new tech houses. So why do some people push for these organisations to be more like Uber or Spotify?
For those experiencing Digital Transformation programs, hopefully, you will walk away with 'that is happening to me right now', and gain insight from lessons learned on previous Programs.
Look forward to seeing you at the event.
