Financial Controls for Project Managers It all comes back to the money – understand what you need, convince stakeholders to provide it, and control what you have. Seminar Description It’s all about the money. Every business owner knows it. Every public service needs it. And to project managers it’s one of the triple constraints: scope, time – and cost. The one we don’t like talking about because it’s often too hard. In fact, preparing, agreeing and then tracking a project budget can be one of the project manager’s big nightmares: “What are those Finance people on about?” – Comprehend financial concepts and jargon “How much will it really cost?” – Build confidence in the accuracy of your budget and risk estimates “How much have we spent?” – Build simple cost controls into your project status tracking process This practical workshop outlines the key elements of estimating project costs, developing a project budget and planning for effective cost control. Through attending this workshop you will gain insight and obtain practical tools to improve your capability in all three areas. The workshop is designed to demystify the financial components of projects, and inspire and motivate project managers to take ownership of their budgets, and reap the rewards of financial control. An integrated case study has been designed to give practical insight into project cost management. Learning Objectives On successful completion of this workshop, participants will: Have increased financial literacy Understand financial aspects of project management Understand the importance of knowing the cost of the project to date Be able to identify factors that hide real cost Have practical tools to track real cost Receive tips on communicating cost related issues Target Audience This seminar is aimed at project and line managers who have financial responsibility over their project- and departmental budgets. Conversational Leadership Leadership Skills Series Utilise everyday conversations to stimulate creativity, challenge thinking, reduce conflict and build loyalty among your team and key stakeholders. Seminar Description Successful managers and leaders cannot rely on the traditional authority of the “command and control” culture to deliver outcomes. Increasing evidence suggests that force and directive behaviour does not lead to long term commitment. Instead, we need to foster relationships and utilise influence to build commitment and accountability in our teams. This requires a whole new leadership style – one focused around building engagement. Everything we do as leaders involves communication – but research into how the brain functions suggests we may need to change how we use our communication skills. It’s not necessarily the flashy, highly visible leader that delivers the best results, but the leader whose conversational and questioning style elicits new thinking, fosters accountability, and builds commitment and passion. Using a case study approach, this seminar illustrates the communication challenges managers encounter daily, and then suggests alternate approaches based on the latest research into the neurosciences. Participants will experiment with various conversational and questioning techniques to build trust and develop thinking. Recommended: Combine this course with Increasing Your Effectiveness (with DiSC® Profiles) and Building Influence Equity to accelerate your communication capabilities. Learning Objectives On successful completion of this seminar, participants will: Understand the problems inherent in command and control style leadership Enunciate the benefits of conversational leadership Apply a Conversational Leadership Framework to reframe their daily communications Enhance their leadership and organisational influencing skills Target Audience This seminar is aimed at leaders and potential leaders in organisations – at those who desire to communicate more effectively with stakeholders and clients, peers and team members. It is tailored for participants who understand that leadership is a decision that can (and must) be made at all levels of every organisation. Navigating GC21 Cooperative based Contracting: Standard form terms November 26 2020 Engineering & Construction Management meet-up About the Topic: The Cooperative Contracting model commenced in NSW Government close to 25 years ago, emerging from Partnering, adapting into C21 and progressing into GC21. The contract continues to develop while attracting broader Government interest for the delivery of diverse Construction projects valued between $1m and $1B. GC21 encapsulates unique relationship development features which has set the tone for practices which have now become relatively standard in many parts of the Construction sector. So what has made GC21 so popular and what may be the opportunities for improvement? Some of the answers relate to unique GC21 terms and processes involving: • Variations • Delay costs • Site Conditions • Extensions of Time • Design responsibilities • Dispute Resolution processes • Stakeholder Relationship development In this presentation, we journey from contact beginnings across diverse stakeholder groups and multiple jurisdictions to delve into the emerging future opportunities in what may have been the largest and longest Cooperative based contracting experience and or experiment in Australia, in recent times. About the presenter: Sol Voron Director at Constructivity https://www.linkedin.com/in/sol-voron-88416416/ Sol previously worked in the former NSW Public Works Department which later became DPWS, the Department of Commerce and finally the Department of Finance and Services. Sol managed the Contractor Prequalification and Best Practice Accreditation Scheme for Construction works valued over $1m, the Consultant Prequalification Scheme for Construction, Contractor Performance Management System, Construction Industry Stakeholder Communication Program. Sol has facilitated a broad range of Risk Management and Value Management Studies, Teambuilding workshops, GC21 Start Up workshops and meetings. Sol now manages CONSTRUCTIVITY, an advisory and training consultancy assisting Construction Contractors and Consultants to better understand opportunities for developing the business relationship with Government.
