Why (leaky) Pipelines of Talent Matter: Lessons from the Nuclear Industry ABOUT: We’re used to hearing slogans abound on how ‘people are our greatest asset’, about ‘pipelines of talent’ and how much ‘diversity matters’. But what evidence is there that this makes a positive or tangible difference to the delivery of our projects and their outcomes? This presentation will discuss case studies from the global nuclear industry, as well as covering some of the latest research on the advantages, and the pitfalls, of harnessing diverse talent for our global project teams. SPEAKER: Jasmin combines serious tech, engineering safety and an appreciation for design across some of the most challenging environments, from high-altitude mountaineering to becoming the first Australian woman to both commission and operate a nuclear reactor. Jasmin is currently a postgraduate lecturer in project management at Torrens University, underpinned by two decades of experience in leading projects in the public sector, as well as in technology & defence industry. Jasmin is the new Director for Volunteering & Academic Outreach for PMI Sydney and a Fellow of the Institute of Managers and Leaders (ANZ).

PMI Melbourne Chapter Monthly Event Understanding what is Behind the PMBOK® Guide Seventh Edition Tuesday 26th October 2021 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm Speaker: Ricardo Vargas PMP®, Chief Advocate in the Project Economy Over the past few years, emerging technology, new approaches, and rapid market changes disrupted our ways of working, driving the project management profession to evolve. Each industry, organization and project face unique challenges, and team members must adapt their approaches to successfully manage projects and deliver results. With this in mind, A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) - Seventh Edition takes a deeper look into the fundamental concepts and constructs of the profession. This month, we are thrilled to announce Ricardo Vargas as PMI Melbourne Chapter keynote speaker. Ricardo is Chief Advocate in the Project Economy, and as a global expert in project management and strategy implementation, has delivered 250 keynote addresses in more than 40 countries, and he has written 15 books in the field. Specialized in implementing global initiatives, capital projects and product development, Ricardo has managed more than $20 billion in international projects in the past 25 years. Ricardo also created and led the Brightline Initiative from 2016 to 2020 and was the director of project management and infrastructure at the United Nations, leading more than 1,000 projects in humanitarian and development projects. Passionate about how project management framework evolves, Ricardo created a first video to share his experience about PMBOK® Guide in 1998 when he was studying for his PMP exam. Since then, he decided to publish videos and create specific contents to help professionals who work on projects understand the Guide and lose their fear or preconceived notions about its content or format. His previous video about the sixth edition of the PMBOK® GUIDE has more than 1.2 million views on YouTube (English plus Portuguese versions views), and its process flow has been downloaded nearly 800,000 times. Join Ricardo at PMI Melbourne Chapter event in October in his short presentation of the principles and performance domains of the seventh edition of the PMBOK® Guide published by the Project Management Institute (PMI), and discover how this modern guide that betters enables project team members to be proactive, innovative, and nimble in delivering project outcomes.
